Alstare manager Francis Batta says it is his plan to take both his team and Bimota into the British Superbike Championship next season as he looks to increase the manufacturer's global involvement in racing.
A stalwart of the World Superbike Championship – and champions with Suzuki in 2005 -, Alstare is spearheading Bimota's much discussed return international motorsport by entering a pair of BB3s into the new EVO class.
Though strict homologation rules state that Bimota is ineligible to score WSBK points for the time being, the bike has nonetheless proven very competitive in its class. As such, Batta is keen to spread the Italian marque's footprint around the world by building and selling machines for domestic series, including Germany, France, Australia and South Africa.
However, he is also keen to crack the British market with what would be a full Alstare entry, claiming BSB to be the best Superbike series beyond the world championship.
“The programme for Alstare for next year is to build and sell ten EVO bikes,” he told Crash.net. “It is important for me to have two bikes in Britain, Germany, Australia, South Africa and France.
“It is possible to have Team Alstare itself in BSB, unless there is already a good team structure in place, then they can receive good assistance from Alstare.
“For me, after the world championship, the best Superbike series is BSB. The promoters do a very good job, which makes it a good business - there are many spectators and good television coverage in English-speaking countries, which is very important for me. Also, the English people are very passionate and this I like!”
Alstare Bimota is currently heading to the sixth round of the World Superbike Championship, to be held at Sepang, Malaysia.
